da dobrowin: Sky Sports reporter Vinny O’Connor has said that he does not expect Liverpool to do any business on transfer deadline day.
What’s the story?
da 888: As we embark on the final 24 hours of this January window, all of the 20 clubs in the Premier League have been analysed by the sports channel, with a reporter predicting what each club will be up as the clock ticks down.
O’Connor, though, expects it to be a quiet day at Melwood. He said: “Liverpool have focused their interests on the transfer market towards the start of the window, with the signing of RB Salzburg’s Takumi Minamino confirmed as early as December.
Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
“I’m expecting certainly no incomings and almost certainly no outgoings in the final days of the window. Even a minor loan deal going out is unlikely at this point, while Jurgen Klopp has also ruled out Shaqiri leaving in this window with Roma and Sevilla both having made contact over his availability.”
Back-up options
The Anfield outfit have got their business done early this month. In fact their only senior arrival, Minamino, was signed in December. Klopp has already said that there will likely be no more new signings before February and on paper, that is not too surprising – after all, they do currently possess a 19-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
However, perhaps one or two back-up options wouldn’t go amiss. For example, Andrew Robertson is the only senior left-back available to the former Borussia Dortmund manager, and he has started 32 matches in all competitions so far this term – only Virgil van Dijk (33) has more for the Reds – whilst Divock Origi, who has been used as cover for Sadio Mane at times this campaign, is not exactly comfortable in that position, as his 6.9 SofaScore rating against West Ham indicates.
It is obviously difficult to bring in the right player at this point of the window, and the Merseyside club will unlikely want to make a move unless the deal makes perfect sense – disrupting team harmony is an absolute no-no. Having said that, should the opportunity arise, they should look to swoop. The correct addition could make all the difference as they enter the business end of a potentially historic season.
Meanwhile, one Liverpool man’s future is up in the air following this Bundesliga transfer.
