da heads bet: Erhun Oztumer started for Charlton Athletic against Cardiff City and took his chance to impress Lee Bowyer.
On the chalkboard
Prior to the 2-2 draw, FFC wrote that the Addicks’ current injury crisis could give the former Bolton Wanderers man an opportunity to play, therefore offering a chance to prove himself to Bowyer.
The 28-year-old certainly made the most of that chance, as he went on to play a key part for Charlton during the match.

His most notable contribution was the beautifully weighted through ball he played to Jonathan Leko, setting up the loanee for Charlton’s second goal of the game.
Outside of that, he took four shots and played three key passes, showing how attack-minded he was in his play, but he still maintained a pass success rate of 90%.

Hoping to build
This performance could set the midfielder up for back-to-back starts for the first time this campaign if he is fit, with the Addicks facing Luton Town on Tuesday.
The midfielder received treatment after a big challenge against Cardiff but was eventually able to stay on the pitch.
Speaking about him on Monday, Lee Bowyer said to The South London Press, (via London News Online) “Ozzy is struggling and it will be touch and go with him. It just depends how he is today. I’ll make a decision on him this afternoon, whether he’ll travel or not.”
Considering Josh Cullen will be unavailable due to an injury sustained in the same game, it would be a massive blow for Bowyer if the 28-year-old was confirmed unable to play.
From Oztumer’s point of view, this would be particularly cruel timing, as he will likely be hoping to build on such a positive performance.
In other news, many Charlton fans were impressed by this youth prospect’s performance against Cardiff City.
