Liverpool have responded by spending over £300 million on a host of new signings, including Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, while the Merseysiders continue to be linked with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak despite having a £110m bid rejected in August. However Slot says it was necessary for his side to spend so heavily this summer, insisting it would be incorrect to "romanticise" too much about their historic title victory.
WHAT SLOT SAID
Referencing how difficult Liverpool found it last season, Slot said: “To romanticise last season as much as we do – and sometimes we make this mistake inside the building as well, I mean the players – is incorrect. Last season was, every single time, a struggle, most wins were only by one goal and we had to fight really hard for it."
